MIAMI: Speculation over a LeBron James Heat return intensified after Miami mistakenly published a YouTube link for an introductory press conference scheduled for July 27.
The deleted livestream was titled “LeBron James Introductory Press Conference.” A Miami Heat spokesperson told ESPN that staff had prepared the link in case James signed and published it accidentally, stressing that it did not confirm an agreement.
ESPN insider Adam Schefter then told Philadelphia radio station 97.5 The Fanatic that he found the incident difficult to dismiss. Schefter acknowledged that he had no direct knowledge of negotiations but said the situation suggested that “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”

— E! News (@enews) July 22, 2026Schefter also said someone texted him near the start of free agency and advised him to monitor James and Miami. His remarks amounted to a prediction rather than confirmation from James, his representatives or the Heat.
James informed the Los Angeles Lakers in June that he intended to play elsewhere during the 2026–27 season. His agent, Rich Paul, later identified Miami among several teams under consideration, but ESPN reported that James had set no timetable for announcing his destination.

The 41-year-old won two NBA championships during his four seasons with Miami from 2010 to 2014. The Heat have not announced his signing, contract terms or a press conference.
