LeBron James did not announce his next NBA team on Tuesday and remained undecided about his destination for the 2026-27 season, ESPN reported.
ESPN reporter Dave McMenamin said on “SportsCenter” that a source told him “nothing happening today” on July 21. He added that James was still reviewing his options and had no elaborate announcement plan.
McMenamin also reported that figures around the league, including NBA Commissioner Adam Silver, were urging James’ representatives to reach a decision. The league has not announced a formal deadline for free agents.
James’ agent, Klutch Sports chief executive Rich Paul, has said the 41-year-old is considering several teams, including the Cleveland Cavaliers, Miami Heat and Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia stars Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid and Jaylen Brown have contacted James during the team’s pursuit, ESPN reported.
James informed the Los Angeles Lakers in June that he would leave after eight seasons and play his record 24th NBA campaign elsewhere. He has not disclosed when he plans to announce his new team.

The NBA’s all-time leading scorer averaged 20.9 points, 7.2 assists and 6.1 rebounds across 60 games during the 2025-26 season.
