The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast that the port city will experience a partial heatwave over the next three days. Temperatures are expected to exceed 40°C and “feel like” 50°C around noon today.
According to the PMD’s Chief, a blocked sea breeze during the day will intensify the heat. He urged residents to take precautions by increasing their intake of water and juices to stay hydrated. The current humidity level stands at 39%.
The Chief further noted that Tuesday’s temperatures will likely range between 38°C and 40°C, and hot winds from Balochistan will prevail during the day, although a sea breeze might return in the evenings. However, a slight relief is expected by Wednesday, with temperatures potentially dropping to 39°C or 37°C.
Moreover, the PMD anticipates above-normal rainfall in southern Sindh, including Karachi, this year. Monsoon rains are expected to start in eastern Sindh around July 2 or 3, with Karachi likely to see its first monsoon rains in the first week of July.
Meanwhile, the weather will remain significantly hot in most parts of Sindh for the next three days. In Ghotki, Jacobabad, Dadu, Larkana, and Shikarpur, temperatures could soar from 46°C to 48°C. Hyderabad, Umarkot, Tharparkar, and Badin are expected to experience temperatures between 44°C and 46°C. There is also a chance of light rain with thundershowers in Tharparkar and Umarkot by this evening or tonight.
