A Karachi doctor shot dead near Metropole in front of his wife has triggered a police investigation, after unidentified assailants intercepted the couple’s rickshaw and opened fire on Shahrah-e-Faisal.
The victim was identified as Dr. Sarang. Police said he was travelling home from Cantt Station with his wife when attackers in a car stopped their rickshaw and shot him before fleeing the scene.
Police said the attack took place in full view of the victim’s wife, adding to the shock of the incident. Authorities shifted Dr. Sarang’s body to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for legal formalities.
Dr. Sarang worked as a physician at a private hospital and lived near the Karachi Press Club. Investigators are now examining the killing from multiple angles to determine the motive behind what appears to be a targeted attack.
Authorities have not yet announced a motive, but police confirmed that the investigation is under way. Officials are reviewing the circumstances of the ambush and the movements of the attackers, who escaped in a car.
The attack has added to broader concern over safety in Karachi, where law enforcement is already under pressure over street crime and robbery incidents.
IG Sindh Orders Action on Rising Crime
Inspector General Sindh Javed Alam Odho has taken stern notice of the rising number of robbery incidents across Karachi. He sought a detailed report from Additional IG Karachi, Azad Khan and ordered stricter steps to control street crime.
The IG directed police to form specialised teams to arrest suspects quickly, intensify intelligence-based operations, improve patrolling and strengthen the snap-checking system. He also called for the identification of crime hotspots and wider use of CCTV monitoring.
Odho also instructed officers to respond more quickly to public complaints and improve emergency response times. He stressed that the law-and-order situation must not deteriorate.
The killing of Dr. Sarang now stands as another serious case testing Karachi police as authorities try to contain violent crime and reassure the public.
