Jennifer Lopez’s $90 million Las Vegas residency is reportedly in jeopardy due to poor sales of her upcoming tour and album and rumours that her marriage to Ben Affleck is troubled.
In February, Lopez was considered for a 90-show residency at The Park MGM Theater in Las Vegas, reportedly at $1 million per concert. However, the New York Post now reports that the deal is uncertain as casino executives reconsider, given her recent lacklustre tour and album performance.
A source told the publication, “MGM is watching her not doing well on the road. They are very nervous. You rarely have a poor tour and then go to Vegas.” The source speculated that Lopez might now receive only $600,000-$500,000 per show, with fewer than the originally planned 90 shows.
Despite the residency rumours, Lopez’s current tour, rebranded from ‘This Is Me… Now: The Tour’ to ‘This Is Me… Live,’ focuses more on her greatest hits rather than her latest album, ‘This Is Me… Now.’ The tour aims to reconnect fans with her earlier work, inspired by the successes of artists like Taylor Swift and Madonna.
However, ticket sales remain sluggish, with many seats still available and resale sites offering tickets for as low as $10.
DailyMail reported concerns about the tour’s viability, stating, “Live Nation met with J.Lo’s manager Benny Medina to suggest cancelling J.Lo’s tour because of poor sales, but they are adamant that the show must go on.”
According to DailyMail, another source revealed that Live Nation is highly concerned about the poor ticket sales for Jennifer Lopez’s tour. The company worries about the potential embarrassment Lopez might feel upon seeing empty stadium sections during her performances.
The lack of interest in Lopez’s tour might be attributed to her high public profile; as one insider suggested, “J.Lo is overexposed and has put herself out there way too much.”
Amid these professional challenges, Lopez’s personal life is reportedly strained, with rumours that she and Affleck are living separately just two years after their wedding. However, the couple was seen together publicly for the first time in seven weeks at Ben’s child Fin’s school recital on May 16.
