FOXBOROUGH: The New England Patriots beat the Philadelphia Eagles 24-21 on Saturday as a Ja’Quinden Jackson injury prompted an ambulance trip during the opening kickoff.
The 2026 NFL preseason game began on August 22 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts.
Jackson suffered the injury while tackling Patriots returner Lan Larison. Medical personnel placed the Eagles running back on a backboard and stretcher before moving him into an ambulance on the field.
The 24-year-old raised his thumb as responders transported him to a local hospital. The Eagles later confirmed that he had strength and movement in all extremities.
Jackson’s agent, Damien Butler of CMV Sports, told The Athletic that the player remained awake and could use all four limbs. Butler also said a CT scan returned negative.

The Eagles announced early Sunday that Jackson would return to Philadelphia with the team. Head coach Nick Sirianni said after the game that the player’s condition appeared to be progressing.
Jackson joined Philadelphia on August 10 after spending the 2025 season on the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad. He previously played running back for Utah and Arkansas, scoring 15 rushing touchdowns during his final college season.
The Eagles had not announced a diagnosis or timetable for Jackson’s return by Sunday morning.
