Islamabad: A fire tore through H-9 Sunday Bazaar near Peshawar Mor on Tuesday, gutting more than 70 shops before firefighters contained most of the blaze, officials said.
Rescue officials said the fire spread quickly through the crowded weekly market. Fire crews from Islamabad responded, while additional tenders came from Rawalpindi.
The Assistant Commissioner I-9 reached the site and supervised the response. The district administration later said the fire was 75% contained.

Officials said the blaze had broken out at 9 locations within the bazaar. Firefighters doused six of them while crews kept working on three remaining sections.
Rescue workers and witnesses said shops were destroyed as flames spread through the market. No casualties were reported in the initial update.

The cause of the fire at the Islamabad Sunday Bazaar has not been confirmed. Authorities said investigations were underway while cooling work continued in the affected areas.
Rescue 1122 teams from Rawalpindi joined local units in the operation. Damage assessment began after the fire was largely brought under control.

Authorities pointed to LPG cylinders as a possible factor. Officials said LPG cylinders remain banned in Islamabad bazaars due to safety concerns.
Officials said nine shopkeepers were arrested Monday for violating the ban on the use of illegal cylinders. Daily raids against illegal LPG cylinders continue in city markets.
