Iran executions were carried out against two men accused of spying for Israel, Iranian media reported. This happened despite international calls to halt the sentences.
The men were identified as Yaquoub Karimpour and Nasser Bakarzadeh. They were convicted of espionage for Israel, according to the reports.
Karimpour was arrested after last year’s 12-day war against Israel. He was accused of cooperating with Mossad, Israel’s intelligence agency, by sharing sensitive national security information. Bakarzadeh had been in custody since 2023.
The Human Rights Activists News Agency alleged that prisoners were pressured into forced confessions. Furthermore, they were denied access to lawyers or family members.
Euronews reported that Karimpour, 41, was a follower of the Yarsan religious minority, while Bakarzadeh was a Kurdish political prisoner.

Hengaw human rights organisation said at least 26 prisoners were executed in Iran in April 2026.
Iranian judiciary chief Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei warned there would be no leniency in prosecuting and punishing those accused of crimes against the country.
He said Iran would not pay attention to the “bluster of the arrogant powers and their propaganda mouthpieces.”
