The Higher Education Commission (HEC) warned students against enrolling in outdated two-year degree programs.
The announcement was made through HEC’s official Instagram account. Specifically, the HEC has phased out two-year BA/Sc and MA/MSc programs, extending the deadline until June 30, 2022.
Despite clear directives from the HEC, some institutions continued to admit students into these discontinued programs past the deadlines. The notification stressed that degrees from these programs would not be recognized or attested by the HEC, urging students, parents, and other stakeholders to refrain from enrolling.
Originally, the decision to eliminate these two-year degrees was made in 2004 to align with international educational standards. Although universities were given until 2016 to phase out these programs fully, the transition has been ongoing.
The HEC has since introduced two-year associate degree programs as replacements for the traditional BA and BSc degrees, equating to 14 years of education. Graduates from these associate programs are eligible to enter the fifth semester of a four-year BS program.
