Following a strong protest from the combined opposition, the government has withdrawn a resolution to increase the number of parliamentary committee members from 12 to 16, announced to finalise the terms of reference (ToRs) for the judicial commission to probe the allegations of offshore companies, money laundering, loan waivers and kickbacks against politicians in two weeks’ time.
Earlier, the National Assembly on Thursday adopted a resolution to form a committee comprising eight members from the government and equal number from the opposition.
It may be noted here that the government and the opposition on Wednesday agreed to form a 12-member parliamentary committee comprising an equal number of members from both sides to finalise ToRs for the judicial commission.
Speaking in the NA today, PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi strongly objected the new motion and said the resolution, signed by the government and opposition should be approved or else it would not be considered unanimous.
After the objection, raised by the opposition, Speaker National Assembly Ayaz Sadiq invited members of the parliamentary parties to his chamber for discussion.
