Google has officially launched the stable version of its Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model, making it available to all users across both web and mobile platforms.
The release of the Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model replaces the experimental preview that debuted in December 2024, representing a notable progression within the Gemini AI family.
In a recent blog post, the Mountain View-based tech giant detailed the rollout of Gemini 2.0 Flash, initially available only on the web client, to its mobile apps. Both free and subscribed users of Gemini Advanced can now access the new model. However, the specifics regarding any usage limits for free-tier users have not yet been disclosed.
Subscribers to Gemini Advanced will benefit from an expanded one million token context window, capable of processing up to 1,500 pages of file uploads. Additionally, premium features like Deep Research and Gems enhance the utility for paid users.
The Gemini 2.0 Flash supports multimodal outputs, integrating image generation with text and steerable text-to-speech (TTS) in multiple languages. It also includes agentic functions, allowing it to interact with Google Search, execute code, and incorporate third-party functions through API configurations.
Google has shared performance data indicating that Gemini 2.0 Flash surpasses its predecessor, Gemini 1.5 Pro, in several benchmarks, including the Massive Multitask Language Understanding (MMLU), Natural2Code, MATH, and Graduate-Level Google-Proof Q&A (GPQA).
While introducing Gemini 2.0 Flash, Google will continue to offer Gemini 1.5 Flash and Gemini 1.5 Pro to both free and advanced users for a transitional period. This extension aims to provide users sufficient time to complete ongoing projects and transition smoothly to the new model.
This rollout enhances Google’s AI offerings and reinforces its commitment to improving user experience through technological innovation and robust support for advanced functionalities.
