Authorities have apprehended five employees of the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (IESCO) on charges of corruption.
A spokesperson from the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) reported that an operation in Islamabad captured these individuals while actively accepting substantial bribes.
The employees involved in the corruption are Zeeshan Ali, Nazir Hussain, Ishtiaq Ahmad, Jahangir Ahmad, and Saqib Saqir. They purportedly used a scheme to collect millions of rupees in bribes to smooth the audit process for IESCO.
Zeeshan Ali was the audit officer, and Nazir Hussain was the assistant audit officer. Their responsibilities included auditing IESCO’s operations within the Jhelum Circle and the Regional Manager Transformer Workshop in Islamabad. The Deputy Director of Procurement and Coordination at the Lahore Office nominated them for these roles.
The arrests were on GT Road, Gujar Khan, where authorities seized 10.475 million rupees from the suspects. IESCO account officers Ishtiaq Ahmad, Jahangir Ahmad, and Saqib Saqir had provided this sum, implicating them as facilitators in the bribery scheme.
Initial results of the investigation show that the suspects collected these funds from field employees. The Anti-Corruption Circle Islamabad has officially filed a case against these individuals, initiating a thorough investigation. As the investigation progresses, authorities expect to make additional arrests based on the suspects’ disclosures.
