UNITED KINGDOM: Concerns over Andy Burnham’s hoax call reached the White House after an unknown person allegedly impersonated Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, according to media reports.
Burnham said the exchange contained “nothing of consequence” and that he became suspicious after several messages. He said he then reported the contact.
Politico reported that British officials considered the incident serious enough for the UK embassy in Washington to raise it directly with the White House.
Speaking to broadcasters in Wolverhampton, Burnham rejected suggestions that the incident embarrassed him. He said the exchange was minimal and involved information of “zero consequence.”
