FIFA bottle ban rules will prevent fans from carrying reusable water bottles into stadiums for the FIFA World Cup 2026, the governing body said, citing safety concerns.
FIFA had earlier allowed empty, transparent, reusable plastic bottles. However, its updated Stadium Code of Conduct, effective Tuesday, now prohibits them, according to Reuters-linked reporting.
The rule also bans bottles, cups, jars and cans. FIFA said it made the change to reduce the risk of injury if objects are thrown at players, officials, fans, volunteers or staff.
Supporters have raised concerns about heat and access to water at venues. Some stadium temperatures could reach 26 to 28 degrees Celsius.
FIFA said it is working with Host City Committees and local authorities on heat measures. These may include misting stations, fans, hydration stations and cooling tents around stadium areas.

Water prices inside the stadium footprint will remain consistent with other events at each venue, FIFA said.
The 48-team FIFA World Cup 2026 will run from June 11 to July 19 across the United States, Canada and Mexico. The expanded tournament will feature 104 matches.
