KARACHI, Sindh: The Mir Raza Ali commission began proceedings into the businessman’s death, summoning police personnel, a medico-legal officer, ambulance drivers and witnesses for further examination.
Sindh High Court Justice Omar Sial, who heads the judicial commission, said it would examine shortcomings in the earlier investigation, police performance and possible negligence under its terms of reference.
Ali’s father, Mir Hussain; his mother and sister; and family lawyer Jibran Nasir appeared before the commission. Hussain told the commission that he lacked confidence in the investigation conducted so far.
Ali, an Institute of Business Administration graduate and businessman, was found dead in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar on July 29, a day after he went missing. His father has maintained that he was murdered and rejected suggestions of suicide.

Nasir told the commission that Ali’s body was taken to Jinnah Hospital, where medico-legal officer Dr Osama Sheikh conducted the post-mortem examination. He also alleged serious negligence in the earlier investigation.
The commission summoned two nursery workers who saw the body, two police personnel who reached the scene, ambulance drivers involved in transporting the body and Dr Sheikh.
Justice Sial also sought clarification about CCTV footage from the area after Nasir said footage from a mosque camera had been shown but the complete recording was not provided to the family.
The judge directed the Sindh government to submit police records, medical reports, witness statements and original documents. He also ordered publication of advertisements in Urdu, English and Sindhi newspapers seeking information from the public.
Justice Sial said the Sindh government would be asked to offer a Rs100,000 reward for information relevant to the case. The commission adjourned further proceedings until September 1.
