Islamabad: The Power Division warned electricity consumers about an electricity bill QR scam linked to fake subsidy registration links.
The Ministry of Energy’s Power Division said cybercriminals are misusing QR codes to collect personal data. They pose as officials from a government subsidy scheme.
The spokesperson said fraudsters ask consumers to click on suspicious links. Then, they push users through a four-step process and demand a six-digit code.
The Power Division called the method illegal and fraudulent. It also told consumers to use only official channels linked to their monthly electricity bills. Law enforcement agencies have received details of the criminal activity, the division said.
The federal government recently introduced QR code verification for subsidised electricity consumers. Under the system, eligible users scan the QR code printed on their monthly bill.

Then, consumers complete registration through the official portal. The Power Division said this process will help deliver subsidies to low-income and low-consumption households.
However, the division said the step does not end subsidies. It only verifies eligible users and keeps relief within the official system.
