UTAH, United States: Meta AI Instagram prompts raised privacy concerns after a user said the system surfaced information about her children and family after she posted a video.
Kalie Robins told Yahoo Tech she uploaded a video of herself singing with her daughter in a car. She concealed the child’s face before publishing it on Instagram.
After returning to the post because of a copyright notification, Robins saw a Meta AI prompt asking about the child passenger.
She said clicking the prompt led to further suggested questions about her family and location. Robins said the responses included information about another daughter who did not appear in the video.
According to Robins, Meta AI also surfaced older family photos, names, birth information and previous locations. She said some material appeared to come from posts by relatives and friends rather than her own account.

Robins later posted a follow-up video on Instagram. By Tuesday afternoon, it had received more than 300,000 likes and 59,000 reposts. She also asked relatives to remove identifiable photos of her children from their accounts.
A Meta spokesperson told Yahoo Tech the feature was designed to help users learn more about posts and topics that interest them.
However, Meta said the system should not have generated those questions and confirmed that it had fixed the issue. The company said responses were based on information the user already had access to.
