Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir has called on lawmakers to prioritize Pakistan’s National Unity.

The COAS remarked during a closed-door meeting on national security held in the National Assembly hall on Friday.

The army chief highlighted that Pakistan has ample resources and a workforce. He urged elected representatives to set the nation’s direction, assuring the army’s full support in working towards Pakistan’s progress and success.

National Assembly members applauded General Munir’s views, and he congratulated the Parliament and its members on the 50th anniversary of the 1973 Constitution’s implementation.

The COAS stressed that the people of Pakistan are at the “center of gravity,” and the Constitution and Parliament represent their views. He asserted that the people’s opinions are channeled through the Constitution and Parliament, emphasizing that sovereignty belongs to Allah Almighty and that the Constitution derives its power from Allah’s command.

General Munir expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by martyrs and ghazis, which have eliminated no-go zones in Pakistan. However, he stated that terrorists must accept the state’s authority and expressed disappointment over negotiations with terrorists, as they led to the further division of such groups.

He assured security forces are prepared to maintain peace in the country, conducting daily intelligence-based operations.

The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, DG ISI, DG Military Operations, Punjab Chief Secretary, inspectors-general of police from all four provinces, and other top officials. During the meeting, the Prime Minister praised the country’s law enforcement agencies for their sacrifices in combating terrorism.

The premier questioned the resurgence of terrorism and its responsibility and inquired about utilizing funds allocated for terrorism eradication and FATA reforms across all provinces. He also sought clarification on using billions of rupees provided to the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province and allocating these resources.
