Chelsea interim manager McFarlane said Friday the Chelsea manager search should still attract top candidates despite another change in the Stamford Bridge dugout.
McFarlane is serving his second spell as stand-in manager this season after the club sacked Liam Rosenior on April 22 following 106 days in charge.
Chelsea’s BlueCo ownership group is seeking a sixth permanent manager since taking over the club from Roman Abramovich in 2022.
“I don’t think I have to sell that,” McFarlane told reporters, describing Chelsea as one of the world’s biggest clubs with major players, strong facilities and a history of winning.
Rosenior had replaced Enzo Maresca, whose 18-month tenure ended in January. Chelsea have had eight permanent managers in the past 10 years, excluding interim appointments.
Reports have linked the club with Bournemouth’s outgoing manager Andoni Iraola, Fulham manager Marco Silva and former Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso.

Chelsea’s league position could affect the search. They sit eighth in the Premier League, 10 points behind fifth-placed Aston Villa with four matches remaining.
The top five teams will qualify for the Champions League. Chelsea next hosts Nottingham Forest on Monday before facing Manchester City in the FA Cup final on May 16.
McFarlane also dismissed concerns over squad unity after Enzo Fernandez, Marc Cucurella and Joao Pedro travelled to Madrid to watch tennis, calling it a positive sign for the group.
