WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump’s approval rating remained at 33%, matching the lowest level cited in his political career, as Americans voiced dissatisfaction over living costs and the Iran war, a Reuters/Ipsos poll found.

The 33% figure marked the third consecutive Reuters/Ipsos survey in which the same share of respondents approved of Trump’s performance in the White House.

The four-day poll surveyed 1,167 US adults nationwide and carried a margin of error of three percentage points in either direction.

Trump’s approval remains well below the 47% recorded early in his current term and below the 35% low reached by his predecessor, President Joe Biden, in October 2024, according to Reuters.

The survey found particularly strong dissatisfaction over household costs. About 71% of Americans, including four in 10 Republicans, disapproved of Trump’s handling of the cost of living.

The war with Iran was another weak point. Only 36% of respondents approved of the conflict, which began after Trump ordered US strikes on Iran in February, according to the poll.

Gasoline prices have risen since the conflict began, while Iran has largely restricted a major transit route for global oil shipments.

The numbers also point to an enthusiasm gap before the November 3 midterm elections. Some 46% of self-identified Democrats said they were “very enthusiastic” about voting, compared with 31% of Republicans.

Among independents asked which party they would support if congressional elections were held immediately, 36% chose Democrats and 22% Republicans.

Reuters/Ipsos also found registered voters had favoured Democrats over Republicans on economic ideas for the past month, which the report described as the first Democratic lead on that issue in about a decade.
