WASHINGTON, United States: US Iran war support fell to 31% while President Donald Trump’s approval remained at a record-low 33%, a Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted August 21-24 found.
Support for US military action against Iran declined from 37% in March and 34% earlier in August. Republican backing fell to 69% from 77% in March, according to the nationwide survey.
Trump’s overall job approval stood at 33% for a second consecutive Reuters/Ipsos survey, the lowest recorded by the poll during either of his presidential terms. An earlier August survey also found 64% disapproved of his performance.
Concern about the conflict’s duration also increased. Eighty-three percent of Americans said they expected US military involvement in Iran to continue for an extended period, while only 12% expected it to end within weeks, Ipsos said.
The conflict began with US-Israeli attacks on Iran on February 28. Disruption to regional oil flows has since contributed to sharply higher US gasoline prices, adding pressure on household finances and becoming a political issue ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.

Independent voters favored Democratic congressional candidates over Republicans by 33% to 19% when asked how they would vote if the election were held immediately.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll surveyed 1,215 US adults and carried a margin of error of about three percentage points in either direction.
