Cambridge International Education postponed the Cambridge A-level maths paper scheduled for Pakistan on May 15 after confirming that someone had prematurely shared AS-level Mathematics Paper 52 (9709).
CIE said it would replace A-level Mathematics Paper 32 (9709) with a new paper and share a revised examination date in the June series with schools by May 22.
The exam body said it was investigating the extent of the paper leak and would provide schools with detailed guidance by May 22 on how to proceed after the breach.
Cambridge Country Director Uzma Yousuf said the organisation aimed to ensure students did not suffer any disadvantage while protecting the integrity of its examinations.
She said senior Cambridge professionals were deciding the next steps, guided by fairness, the reliability of grades and universities’ and other grade users’ continued trust.
CIE described the paper theft in the current exam series as unprecedented and said it believed criminals were seeking to undermine examinations and the students who depend on them.
Yousuf said Cambridge was pursuing legal routes to stop and punish those responsible. She added that paper leaks remained rare and urged the public to rely only on official Cambridge statements.
A day earlier, Federal Education Minister Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui directed the Inter Board Committee of Chairmen to contact Cambridge authorities for an investigation, clarification of facts and urgent measures to protect students’ interests, according to state-run APP.
Siddiqui said reported leaks caused mental stress and uncertainty for students and parents and called on Cambridge to strengthen its examination security, monitoring mechanisms and protocols.
The Cambridge International AS and A Level results release date remains August 11, according to CIE.
