Bushra Bibi, a spouse of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, plans to file a defamation lawsuit against Maryam Nawaz, Senior Vice President of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N), as reported by Fawad Chaudhry, a prominent figure in Pakistan Tehkeek-e-Insaf (PTI).
At a press briefing in Islamabad, PTI’s senior vice president shared that the leader of the ruling party, Maryam, claimed that Bushra Bibi accepted bribes for facilitating the approval of official documents by the authorities under the former PTI-led government.
Chaudhry emphasized that Bushra Bibi has never been politically active and has only been known for visiting shelters. Yet, despite her lack of political involvement, Maryam continued to make accusations against her.
As a result, Chaudhry announced that Bushra Bibi would send a legal notice to Maryam Nawaz for her unfounded claims, which the submission of a criminal complaint against the PML-N leader will follow.
Maryam, who also serves as PML-N’s chief organizer, has consistently accused the former first lady of accepting bribes, such as a diamond set, in return for wielding her influence during Imran Khan’s tenure.
The PML-N leader further alleged that Farhat Shezadi, a close friend of Bushra Bibi, was actively engaged in managing the day-to-day operations of the Punjab administration led by Usman Buzdar and also received bribes for official transfers and appointments.
In the same press event, the PTI leader accused Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja of being a “crony” of the ruling alliance. Chaudhry claimed that while the CEC professed a lack of funds for elections, he simultaneously purchased four acres of land in Sargodha for the election commission office for 320 million rupees.
Fawad Chaudhry mentioned that Senator Ejaz Chaudhary had filed a complaint against the CEC, but no action was taken. He then announced that the PTI would submit a new reference against the chief election commissioner.
The PTI leader asserted that the CEC is part of a scheme to deprive citizens of their voting rights and called for his removal.
