QUETTA, Balochistan: The Balochistan government will introduce a convoy system on provincial highways to protect cargo trucks, passenger coaches and road travellers, officials said.
Additional Chief Secretary Home Hamza Shafqaat announced the decision during a meeting with representatives of the Quetta Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Quetta Commissioner Shahzeb Khan Kakar also attended the meeting.
Shafqaat said the government had made safe travel and smooth transport movement its top priority.
Officials said the convoy system would secure the transport of goods from the Taftan border to Quetta and other parts of Pakistan.

They also said the government had started steps to compensate the families of those killed in the recent Kalat incident.
Meanwhile, QCCI representatives voiced concern over attacks on cargo trucks, LPG bowsers and other vehicles on highways.
They said truck-burning incidents, highway robberies and bridge damage had created fear among importers, exporters and passengers.
Shafqaat, Kakar and Quetta Deputy Commissioner Mehrullah Badini said the government and district administration had begun measures to improve highway security.
Officials said the Pakistan Army, Frontier Corps and Anti-Terrorism Force were helping secure routes and clear areas hit by repeated vehicle-burning incidents.
