At least two people were killed, and many others were injured in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa on Tuesday night after a magnitude 6.8 earthquake shook most of the country.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), the earthquake’s magnitude was 6.8 on the Richter scale, and its epicenter was 180 kilometers below the surface in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan.
Shafiullah Gandapur, a police officer in the district of Swat in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, reported that a 13-year-old girl was murdered when a wall in her home collapsed on her, and 150 people were injured.
The Bahrain-Kalam Road was closed by landslides caused by the earthquake, and at least five family members were injured when the roof of their home in Swabi fell.
In Malakand Division and other districts of the province, similar occurrences involving roof and wall collapses resulted in at least 29 injuries, including women and children.
The fall of a 90-meter-long wall surrounding a police station in K-P resulted in no injuries, according to a police district spokeswoman.
According to a report by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), which supervises more than 18 districts, there were no reported fatalities or property losses in Punjab.

A representative for the PDMA, however, asserted that the earthquake in Rawalpindi was to blame for the appearance of cracks in certain high-rise structures.
He said rescue teams had been dispatched to the affected structures, adding that Punjab officials have been authorized to assess additional high-rise properties for damage.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has also asked the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and other relevant institutions to be highly alert in unfavorable circumstances.
The prime minister prayed to Allah Almighty for the nation’s protection and everyone’s safety. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, he also prayed to Allah Almighty for the safety and well-being of his fellow citizens.
