At least 27 injured people have been admitted to Pakistan Institute Medical Sciences following clashes of police with the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek Monday morning.
Braving massive barricades and multiple hurdles on their way to the airport, the workers of Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) arrived at Benazir Bhutto International Airport to receive their leader Dr. Tahir-ul-Qadri on an Emirates flight that was subsequently diverted to Lahore.
The area around Koral Chowk of Islamabad presented a scene of a battlefield with intense teargas shelling and firing of rubber bullets by the police, who are present here in huge number.
It should be mentioned here that the PAT workers who arrived at the gate of the airport include women in huge numbers, waiting for the gate to open to welcome Dr. Qadri. The demonstrators said they are “peaceful” yet will “forcefully” barge into the airport premises as and when their leader Tahir-ul-Qadri’s flight lands at the airport.
Medical Superintendent of PIMS said 27 injured were brought to PIMS adding of them 26 are policemen while one is a civilians.
He said that most of the policemen have suffered head injuries, adding injured are being provided best medical treatment.
