Authorities in Azad Jammu and Kashmir have registered an AJK sedition case against Joint Awami Action Committee leaders after an alleged audio recording linked to the group surfaced online.
The case was filed in Muzaffarabad on the complaint of the AJK Home Department. It was filed against Shaukat Nawaz Mir and Khawaja Mehran Arshad. The two JAAC leaders have been accused of inciting rebellion through speeches and written statements.
Police registered the First Information Report under Section 124-A of the Azad Kashmir Penal Code. Additional provisions related to incitement and public disorder were also included. More than 1,000 unidentified people have also been named in the case.
The leaked conversation between Shaukat Nawaz Mir and Khawaja Mehran reveals their alleged plot to push anti-state narratives.

The development followed an alleged audio recording involving JAAC figures that appeared on social media. State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry also shared the clip and called it a serious security-related matter.
In the alleged recording, voices attributed to Mir and Mehran discuss conditions in Rawalakot. At the same time, they refer to developments linked to unrest.

The conversation also suggests that certain actions depended on the escalation of clashes in Rawalakot. Afterwards, these actions would expand to other areas, including Muzaffarabad and Mirpur.
Mehran is heard saying law enforcement personnel were present in Rawalakot to maintain order. Mir allegedly says further objectives could not be achieved without a large-scale confrontation.
Chaudhry said the alleged call required a comprehensive and impartial investigation. He added that relevant institutions would conduct urgent inquiries into the audio leak. Furthermore, he said the material indicated that the group’s objectives were driven by violent intent.
