SEOUL, South Korea: South Korea will launch an AI legal secretary service on Tuesday to help public officials review legal grounds during policy planning and implementation, officials said.
The Ministry of Government Legislation said the trial service contains about 240,000 judicial precedents, laws and regulations, according to Yonhap News Agency.
Officials said the tool can answer legal queries from public servants. They said it will work as an interim reference, not a final legal judgment. The ministry developed the service with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Science and ICT.

Officials said the system uses a homegrown South Korean AI foundation model to generate responses. They did not identify the model in the announcement.
“Interpreting and implementing law is one of the most challenging tasks for public services because it requires a high degree of expertise,” Government Legislation Minister Cho Won-cheol said.
