Philadelphia: Aaron Rai won his first major title at the US PGA Championship at Aronimink Golf Club, completing a career breakthrough for the 31-year-old English golfer.
Rai received congratulations in the clubhouse as “Eye of the Tiger” played in the background. The moment matched the tournament’s Philadelphia setting, linked to the “Rocky” film series.
The Wolverhampton-born player stood out with his rare two-glove style. Rai said he adopted the habit as a child and kept it after struggling with one glove.
His golf journey began by accident. His mother, Dalvir Rai, bought plastic golf clubs after a hockey-stick mishap involving Rai and his older brother.
Rai trained at the 3 Hammers Golf Complex from the age of 4. His father, Amrik Rai, later quit his job to support his development.
Rory McIlroy said players were happy for Rai. Xander Schauffele praised Rai’s work ethic, citing his time in the gym and on the range.
