WASHINGTON: President Donald Trump said Sunday he would report Kristen Welker of NBC’s “Meet the Press” to the Federal Communications Commission after disputing her description of his 2026 endorsement record.
Trump made the threat in an August 30 Truth Social post published at about 9 a.m. EDT. He accused Welker of “purposeful inaccuracy” over her characterisation of his primary endorsements as having “mixed results.”
Trump posted figures claiming a 100% success rate for his Senate endorsements and 98% for House races. However, independent reporting.
Documented several Trump-backed candidates who lost Republican primaries this year, including Tennessee Rep. Andy Ogles and former MyPillow chief Mike Lindell.

The Washington Post reported on August 19 that 10 Trump-endorsed candidates had lost 2026 primaries by that point. Other analyses show many of his endorsed candidates also won, including every Senate candidate he had backed through late August.
Different counts can vary depending on which endorsements and races they include. NBC News defended Welker in a statement to USA Today, saying it stood by the “Meet the Press” moderator.

The FCC licenses individual broadcast stations rather than journalists. Its own records list NBC-owned stations such as WNBC as licensees, while federal communications law bars the commission from exercising censorship or interfering with free speech.

Trump previously clashed with Welker during a June “Meet the Press” interview, which ended after she challenged several of his claims.
