Inter Miami beat CF Montréal 1–0 at Stade Saputo in Montréal on Saturday, July 25, after Luis Suárez converted an 81st-minute penalty.
The referee awarded the spot kick after Germán Berterame collided with Montréal defender Efraín Morales inside the penalty area. Berterame lost consciousness and left the pitch in an ambulance.
Interim head coach Guillermo Hoyos later said Berterame was conscious and recovering. Medical staff were conducting tests at a clinic, according to La Jornada.
Suárez converted the penalty with a soft finish past goalkeeper Sébastian Breza. He then raised Berterame’s No. 19 shirt in tribute to his injured teammate.

The victory extended Inter Miami’s league-winning run to six matches. The defending MLS Cup champions moved to 37 points, two behind Supporters’ Shield leaders Nashville SC.
Inter Miami recorded 56% possession and outshot Montréal 18–8, according to the club’s official match report. Rocco Ríos Novo made two saves to secure the clean sheet.

Casemiro made his MLS debut and played 89 minutes. Lionel Messi has not appeared in Miami’s first two matches since Argentina finished runners-up at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
