England beat India by 27 runs in the third one-day international at Lord’s, London, on Sunday, sealing the three-match series 2-1.

Ben Duckett struck 141 as England posted 387-3, the highest ODI total recorded at Lord’s. His innings also became the ground’s highest individual men’s ODI score.

Duckett surpassed Viv Richards’ 138 for the West Indies against England in the 1979 Cricket World Cup final. Jacob Bethell added 91, while Joe Root finished unbeaten on 74.

India reached 360-7 in reply despite Rohit Sharma’s 138. The opener added 147 with captain Shubman Gill, who scored 77, and 113 with Virat Kohli, who made 74.

Bethell bowled Sharma with India at 260-2, ending the tourists’ strongest phase of the chase. The required run rate then increased sharply as England regained control.

Sam Curran finished with 4-75 to restrict India, who needed 388 for victory.

England’s 387-3 surpassed their previous Lord’s ODI record of 334-4 against India during the 1975 Cricket World Cup, when teams played 60-over innings.
