ISLAMABAD: Pakistan launched its National Immigration and Welfare Policy 2026 to improve labour migration, protect the interests of more than 12 million overseas Pakistanis, and develop skills to meet changing global employment needs.

Federal Minister for Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Chaudhry Salik Hussain unveiled the policy at a launch ceremony, calling it a major step in Pakistan’s migration governance framework.

The Pakistan immigration policy 2026 seeks to promote safe and orderly migration, protect workers from exploitation and expand access to internationally relevant training, the minister said.

It also calls for stronger engagement with the Pakistani diaspora and structured support for migrants returning to the country.

Chaudhry Salik Hussain said overseas Pakistanis sent more than USD 41 billion in remittances during the last fiscal year. He described their welfare as a priority for the federal government.

The minister said technological change, demographic shifts and evolving labour demand required Pakistan to prepare workers for emerging opportunities abroad.

The policy brings government institutions, employers, training providers, development partners and the private sector under a unified framework, according to the minister.

He said the system would support workers throughout the migration cycle, from skills preparation and overseas employment to protection and reintegration after their return.
