On Wednesday, the Bombay High Court waived the mandatory six-month cooling-off period for cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal and his estranged wife, Dhanashree Verma.
The court directed the family court to finalize their Yuzvendra Chahal divorce plea by Thursday, March 20. Justice Madhav Jamdar, presiding over the single bench, noted Chahal’s upcoming commitments. The Punjab Kings player will be unavailable after March 21 due to the Indian Premier League (IPL), which begins March 22.
Chahal and Verma filed for divorce by mutual consent on February 5 in a Mumbai family court. They jointly requested a waiver of the cooling-off period required under the Hindu Marriage Act. However, the family court rejected their plea on February 20. Dissatisfied, the couple escalated the matter to the high court.
Dhanashree Verma is educated
She is empowered
She earns pretty well
There is no child from Marriage
Still she is taking 4.25 Crores Alimony from Yuzvendra Chahal for a marriage that lasted just 18 months

High Court Steps In for Yuzvendra Chahal Divorce
Justice Jamdar approved their petition. “Petitioner No. 1 (Chahal) is an IPL participant and may not be available post-March 21,” the court stated. “The family court must decide the Yuzvendra Chahal divorce plea by tomorrow.” This ruling ensures the case wraps up before Chahal’s IPL schedule begins.

The Hindu Marriage Act typically mandates a six-month wait to allow reconciliation. Yet, courts can waive it for mutual consent cases. Here, the high court prioritized Chahal’s professional obligations. The decision marks a key step in swiftly resolving the Yuzvendra Chahal divorce.
