On July 7, 2025, the White House praised Pakistan’s nomination of U.S. President Donald Trump for the 2026 Nobel Peace Prize, recognising his role in brokering a ceasefire during the May 2025 India-Pakistan conflict.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt lauded Pakistan’s nomination, stating it reflects Trump’s “decisive diplomatic intervention” in averting a nuclear escalation between India and Pakistan, per Reuters. Pakistan’s formal letter to the Nobel Committee in Norway, sent in May 2025, cited Trump’s mediation in the 87-hour conflict. A U.S. Republican congressman also nominated Trump for de-escalating Israel-Iran tensions, according to The Hill, which amplifies his 2026 Nobel candidacy.

Trump’s Role in the India-Pakistan Conflict

The May 6–10, 2025, standoff began with India’s missile strikes, prompting Pakistan’s Operation Bunyan-um-Marsoos, which downed six Indian jets, including three Rafales, per ISPR. Pakistan reported 53 deaths, including 40 civilians, while India later admitted 250+ fatalities, per Geo News. Trump’s U.S.-brokered ceasefire ended hostilities, earning praise, though he remarked, “The Nobel is only for liberals,” per The New York Times.

Pakistan’s nomination, announced in May, gained traction with the White House’s July endorsement, per Dawn. Critics, citing Trump’s tariff threats, question his motives, per Al Jazeera, while 60% of Americans approve of his foreign policy. The dual nominations for India-Pakistan and Israel-Iran efforts echo Trump’s 2019 claim of Nobel-worthiness, per NBC News. The announcement, issued amid Pakistan’s monsoon alerts, highlights the importance of diplomacy in maintaining regional stability.

The White House’s support for Trump’s 2026 Nobel nomination, affecting 330 million Americans and 1.4 billion South Asians, underscores his diplomatic influence. This nomination shapes geopolitical narratives, highlighting the importance of diplomacy in reducing nuclear risks in a volatile region.
