WhatsApp is currently testing a new feature that will notify users whenever someone changes the app’s advanced chat privacy settings.
WABetaInfo reported on on April 9, 2025, is set to be released in the future and aims to enhance the transparency and security of both individual and group chats.
Here’s how it works: When a user toggles the advanced privacy switch on or off, everyone in the chat receives a notification. Enabling the switch prevents media from being automatically saved to galleries and blocks the export of chat history, effectively adding an extra layer of privacy. Conversely, disabling the switch reopens these options, and users will receive a notification either way.

This adjustment impacts media saves and chat backups. When enabled, no one can automatically store photos or export logs. An error message will appear if they attempt to do so. If you turn it off, the functionality will return, and the chat will update instantly. It’s a simple yet powerful way to maintain control.
