KANSAS CITY, Missouri: The Chiefs and Broncos met on Monday in a 31-10 win for Kansas City, as the Chiefs opened their 2026 NFL season behind a career night from Kenneth Walker III.
Walker rushed for 173 yards and two touchdowns in his Chiefs debut. He also caught three passes for 18 yards, giving him 191 yards from scrimmage.
The rushing total set Walker’s personal single-game high. It also broke Kansas City’s franchise record for rushing yards in a debut, surpassing Kareem Hunt’s 148 yards from 2017.
Patrick Mahomes returned after the knee injury that ended his 2025 season. He completed 15 of 27 passes for 184 yards, two touchdowns and one interception while adding a 15-yard rushing score.
Mahomes opened the scoring after rookie Mansoor Delane intercepted Denver quarterback Bo Nix on the Broncos’ first possession.

Nix finished 17 of 28 for 131 yards, one touchdown and one interception. Denver managed 176 total yards, its lowest output in a game under head coach Sean Payton.
Travis Kelce caught three passes for 71 yards and moved past Jason Witten into second place on the NFL’s all-time receiving-yardage list for tight ends.

Kansas City will host the Indianapolis Colts in Week 2, while Denver returns home to face the Jacksonville Jaguars.
