WhatsApp is introducing a new feature in its latest beta versions for iOS and Android, allowing users to add and verify their email addresses as an alternative login method. The enhancement is part of WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to provide more flexible login options.
Currently available in WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.23.23.77 and Android 2.23.24.10, as reported by feature tracker WABetaInfo, this option will enable users to access their accounts without relying solely on SMS-based OTPs. This feature is particularly useful for users without international roaming plans, although a phone number is still required for initial service setup.
To add an email address to your WhatsApp account, users can navigate to the settings menu, select Account > Email Address, and follow the verification process. However, this feature’s availability in the latest beta version on the Google Play Store could not be independently verified by Gadgets 360.
Upcoming Feature: Polls in WhatsApp Channels
In another development, WhatsApp is working on a feature that allows sharing polls in channels. According to WABetaInfo, this feature, currently under development, will enable users to create polls while ensuring voter privacy, as individual votes will not be visible to others. This addition will expand the functionality of WhatsApp channels, which currently support sharing photos and existing images from smartphones.
The poll feature is anticipated to be introduced in a future beta release of the app, followed by an eventual rollout to the stable channel after thorough testing. This update will provide users with new interactive tools within WhatsApp, enhancing the overall user experience on the platform.
