WANA, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: Security forces foiled a Wana suicide attack on Saturday, July 18, by destroying an explosives-laden vehicle, killing one militant and injuring five others, state media reported.
The intelligence-based operation took place in the Ghwakhwa area of Lower South Waziristan, Radio Pakistan reported, as per security sources.
The military sources reported that militants had prepared the vehicle for a major attack. Security personnel also destroyed a motorcycle during the operation. Forces kept the suspected suicide vehicle under continuous surveillance for three days.
They waited until it moved away from populated areas before engaging it, reducing the danger to civilians and their property.

State media described the person killed in the operation as a “khariji.” The reports did not identify the individual or disclose the condition of the five injured people.
Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi praised the security forces for preventing the attack. He said the operation had protected residents of Wana and the surrounding areas from possible destruction.
Naqvi said the personnel destroyed the vehicle and motorcycle before militants could use them in an attack. He also commended the forces for protecting civilian lives and property.
Officials did not disclose the intended target or the precise time of the security operation.
