PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: West Indies, 239-5 at stumps, relied on Justin Greaves’ unbeaten 64 to recover on a rain-shortened opening day against Pakistan.

Greaves faced 125 balls and struck eight fours at Queen’s Park Oval. West Indies captain Roston Chase ended unbeaten on 36 from 70 deliveries.

The pair added an unbroken 66 for the sixth wicket after Pakistan reduced the hosts to 173-5. Rain limited the day to 74 overs.

Greaves had earlier shared a 53-run partnership with Shai Hope, who made 29. Mohammad Ali bowled Hope through the gate to claim his second wicket.

Ali Usman dismissed Brandon King for 46 to claim his first Test wicket. Debutant Ubaid Shah removed Amir Jangoo for 26, while Sajid Khan dismissed Kavem Hodge for 10.

Pakistan omitted Mohammad Abbas after he claimed match figures of 8-85 in the first Test. Batter Awais Zafar and fast bowler Ubaid Shah made their Test debuts.
