US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said the US Iran ceasefire remained in place despite intermittent clashes, as Washington continued negotiations with Tehran.
“Of course it’s a ceasefire,” Hegseth told reporters before leaving France, where he attended a World War II memorial ceremony.
Hegseth said President Donald Trump had made clear that incidents could still happen during a ceasefire.
“We’re negotiating actively,” Hegseth said. “Things are happening, shipping is moving through.” He said Iran should not target shipping and that US forces would respond when needed.

Hegseth said Washington still expected a deal. “Ultimately, we think a deal, a great deal, is likely coming soon,” he added.
The comments followed a recent rise in tensions. US Central Command reported Iranian missile launches toward Kuwait and Bahrain early Saturday, with most intercepted.
