KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to reopen a University Road mixed-traffic lane during Red Line BRT construction to ease disruption for commuters, officials said on Friday.
The decision was taken at a project review meeting chaired by Sindh Senior Minister for Information, Transport and Mass Transit, Sharjeel Inam Memon. Secretary Transport Asad Zamin, TransKarachi Chief Executive Officer Zubair Channa, project consultants and other officials attended the meeting.
Officials briefed participants on construction across different sections of the corridor and the measures being taken to address outstanding issues. Relevant agencies were coordinating to accelerate the work, according to the meeting details.
Memon directed the departments and organisations involved in the project to complete their assigned work within the agreed deadlines. He described the Red Line BRT as a major transport project intended to provide Karachi residents with safer, modern and environmentally friendly public transport.

The Sindh Mass Transit Authority identifies TransKarachi as the company responsible for implementing and operating the Red Line BRT project, which is financed by the Sindh government and international development partners.
Memon had previously announced that University Road would reopen to traffic by the end of July. The major Karachi artery has remained partially closed for months because of the Red Line construction.
