The United Kingdom will introduce eVisas for Pakistani students and workers starting July 15, 2025. This digital system will replace the physical visa stickers in passports for most applicants, simplifying the application process and enhancing security.

British High Commissioner Jane Marriott emphasised the advantages of this new system for users. This initiative is part of the UK’s transition to a more streamlined immigration system.

An eVisa serves as an online record of your immigration status in the UK. It outlines your permissions and conditions. You can access it through a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account. This digital format enhances security and simplifies border checks.

The UK is launching eVisas in Pakistan for most students and workers applying for more than 6 months! It will make it simpler and safer, and you can hold on to your passport.

Applicants retain their passports during the processing period, which helps save time and reduce hassle. eVisas have proven to be effective, with millions already in use on select routes. Switching to an eVisa does not alter your status or conditions, and existing valid physical visas can still be used.

Eligible Visa Routes for Pakistani Applicants

The eVisa applies to main applicants on these routes:

  • Students, including short-term study up to 11 months
  • Skilled Worker, including Health and Care
  • Global Business Mobility (Senior or Specialist Worker, Graduate Trainee, UK Expansion Worker, Service Supplier, Secondment Worker)
  • Global Talent
  • International Sportsperson
  • Temporary Work (Charity Worker, Creative Worker, Government Authorised Exchange, International Agreement, Religious Worker)
  • Youth Mobility Scheme

Dependants and other visas, like general visitors, still need physical stickers. The system will expand to all routes soon.

Jane Marriott, the British High Commissioner, stated, “The changes to the UK visa system will simplify the process for students and workers to verify their identity and visa status. Additionally, applicants will be able to retain their passports, which will save them time.”

This initiative supports a more efficient immigration process. The UK eVisa rollout eases travel for Pakistani students and workers. It promotes a secure, digital future for visas.
