US President Donald Trump said in Washington that he could meet Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, if Tehran and Washington move toward a deal.
Trump spoke to reporters at the White House and said he does not seek a meeting now, but would feel “honoured” if one were to help secure an agreement.
“I don’t want to meet, but if I did meet, I’d be honoured to meet him,” Trump said. He added that he would be “okay with it” if talks produced a deal.

Trump said other people had raised the idea. He said he had not proposed it and had not heard much about any current plan.
The president said he would treat any meeting with respect, despite strained ties between the two countries. “I would say I’m not his favourite person,” Trump said.
