Mojtaba Khamenei’s hybrid warfare remarks were read Thursday at Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini’s mausoleum in Tehran, where Iran’s supreme leader accused adversaries of trying to divide Iranians.
The message was delivered during the 37th anniversary of Khomeini’s death, according to Iranian media. Khomeini founded the Islamic Republic after Iran’s 1979 revolution.
Khamenei said Iran’s enemies had suffered what he called a “decisive blow” in military confrontation and inside Iran. He said adversaries were now trying to spread doubt, fear, mistrust and discord among the public.
Press TV reported that Khamenei urged officials and citizens to preserve unity and cohesion. He said any act that creates pessimism among people helps Iran’s enemies.
The remarks were also posted on Khamenei’s official X account. Mojtaba Khamenei has kept a low public profile since he became the supreme leader in March after the reported killing of his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in US-Israeli strikes.
Ali Khamenei had delivered the June 4 commemoration speech every year after Khomeini’s death in 1989. This year, footage from the mausoleum showed an empty chair with Ali Khamenei’s portrait, while attendees waved Iranian flags and Hezbollah banners.
