Tottenham condemns racism against Danso after the defender received abusive messages on social media following Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
The club said Kevin Danso faced “significant and abhorrent” racist abuse after a late error helped Brighton score an equaliser. Tottenham described the messages as vile and dehumanising and said the behaviour amounts to a criminal offence.
Spurs issued a strong statement on Sunday after the abuse targeted the 27-year-old Austrian international. The club said it would not tolerate such behaviour under any circumstances.
Tottenham added that it had reported the content to the Metropolitan Police, other authorities and social media platforms. The club also said it would push for the strongest possible action against anyone identified.
Kevin Danso Receives Support From Spurs
Tottenham made clear that Danso has the club’s full and unconditional support, both as a player and as a person. The statement stressed that no issue related to form or league position could ever excuse racist abuse.
That backing came at a difficult moment for Spurs. The team remains in 18th place with five games left and is still searching for its first league win of 2026.
Danso said he had seen the messages directed at him and rejected the abuse in a statement posted on Instagram. His response came during a weekend when the Premier League promoted its “No Room For Racism” campaign.
He said racism has no place in football or anywhere else. He also said the abuse would not define him or distract him from what matters most. Instead, Danso said he would stay focused, work harder and come back stronger for the next matches.
The latest case highlights a problem that continues to affect European football despite repeated campaigns and stronger enforcement efforts. UK police have increased arrests and bans in racism-related cases, but clubs and players still face recurring abuse online.
Tottenham’s response underlined that the issue goes beyond sport. The club framed the abuse as criminal behaviour and called for firm accountability.
