TikTok P2P payments could allow US users to send money through direct messages, according to Bloomberg, which found related code inside the platform’s iOS app.
The code suggests recipients could accept transfers before an expiry deadline. Senders could also receive payment-status alerts and attach captions to transactions.
The proposed feature would use TikTok Pay, the company’s existing payment system, according to the report. However, a TikTok spokesperson told Bloomberg that the company is not currently testing the feature in any market.
TikTok Pay already operates through TikTok Shop in Southeast Asian markets including Malaysia and Vietnam. In the United States, TikTok Shop currently supports outside payment services including PayPal, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Klarna and Affirm.
