Tiger Woods has decided not to participate in the upcoming Valspar Championship, deviating from his initial plan to compete in one monthly tournament. His absence from the golfing scene in March dashed hopes of seeing him play before the Masters.
The PGA Tour’s announcement of the Valspar Championship lineup concluded without Woods’ registration, effectively removing his last practical chance to gear up for the Masters.
Woods’ engagement with the Valspar Championship has been minimal, with his only appearance in 2018 resulting in a second-place tie. He also seems unlikely to join the Houston Open and the Valero Texas Open, with his last entry in the latter being in 1996.
Concerns over Woods’ physical fitness persist, especially regarding his back. Although he competed in the Seminole Pro-Member event, finishing T44, he disclosed experiencing back issues during the Genesis Invitational, which compromised his performance.
Woods has not confirmed his presence at future tournaments, despite speculation about his participation in the Arnold Palmer Invitational or THE PLAYERS Championship.
There are rumours that Woods plans to meet with PIF officials at the PGA Tour headquarters, suggesting that discussions about his role in forthcoming golf events may be underway.
