In a contentious battle with Texas Tech, Dylan Disu and Max Abmas propelled Texas to an 81-69 win, underpinned by their robust performance in the first half. However, the match paused significantly due to fans hurling objects onto the court.

As the game progressed into the second half, a physical altercation involving Texas’ Brock Cunningham led to his expulsion following a flagrant foul 2.

The court was strewn with debris, such as water bottles, while officials and security worked to address the disturbance and eject disorderly spectators.

Although Texas Tech attempted a comeback, the Longhorns maintained their lead. In response to the unruly crowd, Coach Grant McCasland appealed for decorum, eventually resuming the game after a plea over the public address system.

Post-match, McCasland reflected on the incident, acknowledging the fervour surrounding the game and condemned the actions of a few for affecting the many. He emphasized the collective disapproval of such conduct, which disrupted the game and penalized the team through technical fouls.

Controversial opinion: the incidents at the Texas vs. Texas Tech basketball game are an example of what makes college basketball great. No the students shouldn’t have thrown debris, but a fan base that’s still engaged when you’re down 20+ in the second half is awesome.

Texas’ coach Rodney Terry admitted to contemplating withdrawing his team to safeguard them against the projectiles aimed at their bench. He commended McCasland for his efforts in quelling the turmoil, highlighting his character and leadership in navigating the team through the adversity.

Terry’s discussion with referee Kelly Self about potentially retreating to the locker room underscored the seriousness of the situation. His acknowledgement of McCasland’s decisive action praised the Texas Tech coach’s integrity and commitment to sportsmanship.
