SOUTH BEND, Indiana: Three Notre Dame NFL sons are building their own identities while sharing the pressure of growing up in prominent football families.
Devin Fitzgerald, Jerome Bettis Jr. and Elijah Burress are among the youngest members of the Fighting Irish receiver room. All three are trying to establish themselves independently of their family names.
The trio has also developed a close relationship within Notre Dame’s programme. After a recent practice in South Bend, they remained together near midfield while teammates headed toward the locker room and other team facilities.
Their shared background gives them an unusual point of connection as they navigate college football expectations at one of the sport’s highest-profile programmes. Fitzgerald, Bettis and Burress as young receivers connected by both friendship and family pedigree.
